Fact Check: Old video of Saudi Arabia’s National Day celebration falsely linked to Diwali 2024

A video featuring vibrant fireworks and celebrations is being circulated with claims that it shows Diwali celebrations in Saudi Arabia in 2024. However, the video is actually from a past Saudi National Day celebration and is not connected to any religious festival.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @RealBababanaras wrote, “Diwali celebration in Saudi Arabia. The Arab world is moving towards light from darkness. Mahadev”.

Another propaganda account @KreatelyMedia also disseminated the video and wrote, “Arabs are celebrating Diwali, Owaisi is mourning”. (Translated from Hindi)

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also shared the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here @TufailChaturve, @mainRiniti, @TigerRajaSinggh, @pakistan_untold, @ocjain4.

The truth about the viral video from Saudi Arabia, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that these visuals were old and unrelated to the Diwali celebration in Saudi Arabia.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to initial posts (1, 2, 3) containing the visuals. According to the posts, these visuals are from Saudi Arabia’s National Day celebration, September 2024. During research, we also found multiple reports (1, 2, 3) regarding the 94th National Day of Saudi Arabia.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not related to the Diwali celebration but an old video from Saudi Arabia’s National Day celebration.
