Fact Check: Video of crowded train from Bangladesh falsely linked to Indians

A video of a crowded train with passengers packed both inside and on the roof has been falsely linked to India. In reality, this video is from Bangladesh and has no connection to India. Indian Railways is almost 100% electrified, with overhead electric wires across its network, making it both impossible and extremely dangerous to travel on train roofs.

Sharing the video on X(Formerly Twitter)  @alifarhat79 wrote, “Indians coming into America using H1B”. The post has received more than 1.3 Million views, 20k likes and a significant number of engagements.

Responding to the video another user @Helen_SA2 wrote, “Life is so adventurous in India”

The truth about the video of crowded train, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from India but an old video from Bangladesh.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to social media posts (Facebook )and media reports (saradin.news) containing the same visuals uploaded in 2021. According to the posts and media reports, this video depicts an overcrowded train in Bangladesh.

Moreover, Upon closer examination of the video, we noticed a logo on the front of the engine that matches the Bangladesh Railway logo. Also, the text written on the train is translated as ‘Bangladesh Railway’.

Additionally, Indian Railways is almost 100% electrified, with overhead electric wires across its network, making it both impossible and extremely dangerous to travel on train roofs. While Indian railway stations can become crowded during major festivals, travelling on the roofs of train coaches is not a common practice in India.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not from India but from Bangladesh.
