Fact Check: Farmer’s body found hanging in Bangladesh’s Madaripur Sadar, video circulated with communal claims 

A sensitive video depicting a man’s body hanging from a tree is circulating online with the claims that a Hindu individual was brutally killed and hanged in a religious hate crime in Bangladesh. However, these claims are not true. According to media reports, the deceased has been identified as Mizan Sardar, son of Abu Ali Sardar. He is not a member of the Hindu community. Police have recovered the body, and an investigation is underway.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @FarazPervaiz3 wrote, “Graphic Warning: Massacre of Hindus in Bangladesh. A Body of #Hindu Man Found Hanging from a Tree in Madaripur Bangladesh.”

Another propaganda account @TufailChaturve also shared the video and wrote, “Muslims killed and hanged them too because they were Hindus. Madaripur incident, thousands of Hindus were killed in Bangladesh.”

The truth behind the claims of body found hanging in Bangladesh, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the incident was not related to religious hate crimes against Hindus. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens and a relevant keyword search. This led us to media reports regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2, 3, 4), the deceased has been identified as Mizan Sardar, son of Abu Ali Sardar. Hence, he is not a member of the Hindu community. Police have recovered the body, and an investigation is underway. The incident took place on December 28 in Madaripur Sadar, Bangladesh.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video has nothing to do with religious hate crimes against Hindus.

Influencers and propagandists are circulating videos from Bangladesh with misleading claims to set their narrative based on religion.
