Fact Check: Video of people engaged in a physical altercation in Sambhal circulated with communal claims

A video depicting a group of individuals fighting with sticks has been circulated with claims that Hindu devotees were attacked by members of the Muslim community in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. However, this claim is misleading. In fact, according to police reports, the incident was not a religious hate crime; instead, it was a dispute among members of the same community (Hindus).

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @SonOfBharat7 wrote, In Sambhal, snakes came out of their holes again. A bus carrying Maa Purnagiri was attacked in Sambhal. Bhajans were being played in the bus, which had stopped for food and drinks. The Jihadis who were adamant on stopping the bhajans beat the devotees of the goddess to death. Hopefully, the Sambhal police will give a strong reply. (Translated from Hindi). Later, he deleted the post.

Another account, @timesalways1, also disseminated the video and wrote, “Devotees Attacked in Sambhal: An incident occurred in Sambhal involving an altercation between devotees and members of the Muslim community.
