FACTCHECK: “Assam Governor’s Remarks on Madrasas Spark Outrage Amidst Accusations of Religious Hate-Mongering Ahead of Elections”

ANALYSIS: Misleading

FACT: A news is being circulated with false claim in which it is being said that Assam Govt. closed 600 Madrasas in the state of Assam. Fact is that Assam government made the decision to convert the madrasas into regular government-aided schools. The decision by the Assam government to turn madrasas into regular schools has been upheld by the Guwahati High Court.The Supreme Court also did not block the initiative taken by the Assam administration. Ashok Swain of Arab, Abdulla Alamadi also shared two images one from Bongaigaon, Assam where the building was demolished because structures were ‘unsafe for human habitation’ and teacher of that madarsa was in contact with al-Qaeda and Bangladeshi extremist group Ansarullah Bangla Team. This fake news spreader also shared 17 years old image from J&K and claimed to be from Assam.

INTENT: Fake news and propaganda misinformation spreaders sharing misleading news and out of context images with false claim to mislead people. Trying to create communal unrest in the country.
