A video of a woman mercilessly assaulted by a man with a stick is circulating on social media. It has been shared with a claim that the girl is Dalit from Bihar and she is tied to the tree and beaten because she entered the village where UC (upper caste) lives.
Users on social media are expressing strong reactions to this video and blaming society for how the discrimination among castes are still prevalent in some place and a group of people are still a victim of this discrimination.
A Twitter handle @choudharyaaryan shared the video on 16 July 2023 and quoted ” A dalit girl tied to a tree and beaten for entering the place in a village in Bihar where UCs live. Shameful act still happening in our society.”
@ShaykhSulaiman tweeted “ANOTHER WOMAN FLOGGED IN INDIA” regarding this incident on March 11, 2024.
Fact-Check
The D- Intent team researched and found a news report from the Times of India. According to the report, the video is not from Bihar, and claims that the girl is a Dalit may not be true. The news is reported on Jan 7, 2022, and after the video was circulated on social media the police launched an inquiry and found that the video is from Chhota Udepur or Alirajpur — a border district in Madhya Pradesh.
Later on, our team confirm this with the local police, and they assured us that this is not a recent incident, and no caste-based angle was related to the incident. All the claims made on the video are false and the video is an old video that was taken from the border of Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh.
Conclusion
Video shared without accurate information and to spread of propaganda can create panic among different castes. Our team always put extra effort to identify such information and stop it before it gets circulated among the mass. Caste discrimination is still going on in a few places but with proper information and accurate reporting, we make it stop across our country.
