There are false claims circulating about an image showing the Yemeni Armed Forces Navy engaging in a military operation against a container ship that was heading towards Israel. The image shows the ship being hit directly  and targeted by drones.

Verified accounts on twitter, including ZAINABALI_72, Wajidkhan (“@realwajidkhan“) made the claim that the Yemeni Armed Forces confirm that they will continue to block all ships heading towards Israeli ports in the Arabian and Red Seas until they deliver essential food and medicine to steadfast brothers in the Gaza Strip. It also added “Yemen’s Houthis have issued an important statement regarding the attack on a ship going to Israel.” . The tweet post was made on Dec 15, 2023, which has received an about 33k views on X.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The image in question dates back to 2021, during which an explosion on the Singaporean container ship X-Press Pearl occurred due to a chemical fire, close to the Port of Columbo. Not by the Yemeni Armed Forces Navy, but rather as part of the Houthi attack in the Red Sea, three commercial ships were recently hit by missiles.

An article was published by Aljazeera regarding this incident recently on Jan 15, 2024 with the headline “Yemen’s Houthis hit US-owned ship in missile attack, US military says”. The same old video went viral again but this time, according to US military, the container ship was hit by Yemen’s Houthis, but it continued its journey.

Propagandists circulate old images with false claims to set their narrative against Israel. An image has been circulated with false claims that the Yemeni Armed Forces Navy carried out a military operation against a container ship heading towards Israel, which was targeted by drones and ship was directly hit. After proper research, analysis and fact-checking, we have discovered that the image is from 2021, when a chemical fire on the X-Press Pearl (a Singaporean container ship) near the Port of Colombo caused an explosion. Three commercial ships were recently hit by missiles in the Houthi attack in the Red Sea, not by the Yemeni Armed Forces Navy.
