Shashi Tharoor, a Congress leader and member of parliament from Thiruvananthapuram, claimed that Kerala has India’s first and only Book Village.

@ShashiTharoor tweeted “India’s first and only Book Village — it’s in Kerala, of course!” and shared a video related to this on Feb 4, 2024. The tweet has received an about 841.2k views on X.

Is India’s First Book Village Really from Kerala? : Fact

According to reports, the first Book Village opened in Bhilar, Maharashtra, in 2018. The Congress MP’s claims are misleading. It is a false claim made by the Congress MP that the India’s first and only book village is in Kerala.

We visited Times of India, which published an article and clairfied that Bhilar is the India’s first book village on June 25, 2018 with the headline “Bhilar, India’s first ‘book village’, welcomes you to test your reading skills”.

Falsely cliamed that Kerala is home to India's first and only book village, according to Congress leader and member of parliament  from Thiruvananthapura Shashi Tharoor.
