Pictures of a guy in police custody have gone viral, purporting to be Pravin Mishra, who was detained for spying on Pakistan’s intelligence agency.

@KavitaWrite added “पाकिस्तान की ख़ुफ़िया एजेंसी ISI का एजेंट बिहार के मुजफ्फरपुर का प्रवीण मिश्रा गुजरात से गिरफ्तार।” in a twitter post on May 11, 2024.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The truth is that these photos purport to depict Shehnaz, real name Mohammed Ali Mohammed Sabir, as the primary handler in communication with the detained Maulvi Timol, who is suspected of organising the assassinations of BJP officials. Though Pravin Mishra was taken into custody, this had nothing to do with the leaked photo. So, the claim that Pravin Mishra was apprehended for spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency is not true. We visited deshgujarat, which published an article on this incident on May 11, 2024 with the headline “Surat Police nabs main handler of Maulvi Timol from Bihar”. It added “The city’s crime branch on Friday apprehended a 25-year-old man from Bihar, who is allegedly the main handler in contact with the arrested Maulvi Timol, accused of planning the murders of BJP leaders. Identified as Shehnaz, also known as Mohammed Ali Mohammed Sabir, he was captured near the Nepal border in Muzaffarpur, Bihar.”. Times of India also posted on this on May 10, 2024 with the heading “Bharuch man working as spy for Pakistan arrested”. Pravin Mishra, a native of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and current resident of Ankleshwar town in the Bharuch district, is charged with obtaining and providing Pakistan with sensitive information regarding the Indian armed forces and defense-related research and development (R&D) companies. Further, for more clarification, we also went to economic times, which posted on this on May 10, 2024 with the heading “Hyderabad engineer arrested in Gujarat for allegedly spying for Pakistan”. In Bharuch, Gujarat, an aeronautical engineer was taken into custody on suspicion of spying for a Pakistani intelligence organisation. Pravin Mishra, who works for a company in Hyderabad that specialises in missile and drone parts, is charged with obtaining and giving Pakistan access to sensitive information regarding the Indian military and defense-related research. Mishra’s detention is a component of a larger probe into an espionage network that includes people connected to the development of missile systems and organisations such as DRDO and HAL.
