In UP’s Lucknow, a customer named Ajay Singh refused to accept the food delivery order as the delivery boy was a Dalit. The accused spat on the face of the boy and beat him up. The old news has gone viral with misleading claims
Several users, including media outlets, have shared the news. And claimed that in a caste-based discrimination. A Zomato delivery boy belonging to Dalit community was abused, and beaten up in a recent incident in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Fake news peddler and propaganda account HateDetectors has shared the News and said. “In Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, a customer named Ajay Singh refused to accept the food delivery order because the delivery boy was a Dalit. The accused spat on the face of the boy and beat him up. The victim has faced such an attack several times”. He later deleted the post whose archive can be found here.

Another propaganda account @WasimAkramTyagi has also shared the news and said,. If you didn’t want to take food then you shouldn’t have, but what was the need to spit? If you have so much caste frustration then decide that you will eat only such grains which have not been touched by any Dalit from growing them to delivering them to your home. You will wear only such clothes which have not been stitched, woven or packed by any Dalit. Tell me, can you do this!. The post is available here (Archived).

Lokmat Times (@lokmattimeseng) also shared the news and published an article regarding the incident on their website, posting the article link Lokmat Times said. “Delivery Boy Attacked in Uttar Pradesh: Lucknow Customer Refuses Order from Dalit, Assaults Victim”. What is the truth about the viral claims?
D-Intent Data’s research and analysis has found that the incident is old and the claims are not true.We found several reports regarding the incident which occurred in June 2022.
According to Jagaran this incident is from June 2022 when Ajay Singh ordered food. Vineet Kumar Rawat (Delivery boy) arrived with the delivery after an hour. Whereas the journey is of 10 minutes. Aarti Rawat (cook) reached the gate to get the food packet but Vineet refused to give it to her and said that he will get it delivered to the person who placed the order.
At the same time Ajay Singh’s younger brother Abhay Singh also arrived. He parked the car in the portico. Abhay was eating paan. When he spit, the paan splashed on Vineet’s scooter. At this, Vineet started abusing. On protest, he threatened to implicate him in a false case. Hearing the noise, the neighbourhood people came. When they also saw the indecency of the delivery boy Vineet, they protested. After this, they informed the control room. When the police reached on the information from the control room, the local people also said that it was the delivery boy’s fault. And Vivek Shukla another cook said that the delivery boy Vineet Kumar has implicated Ajay Singh and others by filing a case against them by giving a false complaint.

The report also says, Inspector Deepak Kumar Pandey said that the ACP had called Vineet to the office to record his statement. He was also called several times. He had not turned up to record his statement.
The incident has nothing to do with caste based hate crime because It was a dispute over the delivery boy refusing to give the food packet to the cook of the house.
