Fact Check: Indian Army soldier dies in a tragic accident in Arunachal Pradesh; propagandists spread misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are falsely claiming that Indian Army soldier Sunil Gujjar was killed and three others were injured in a militant ambush in Hir Pora, Jammu and Kashmir. However, no credible, official, or verified sources confirm any such incident. In reality, reports indicate that Indian Army soldier Sunil Gujar tragically lost his life in an accident during construction work in Arunachal Pradesh.

Sharing the photo of an army soldier on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @TacticalTribun wrote. “1 Indian Army soldier, Sunil Gujjer, killed, 3 Injured during an ambush with Kashmiri fighters in Hir Pora, IOK”.

Another propaganda account, @Alpha_Intel7, also shared the image and wrote. “Indian Army soldier Sunil Gujjar was killed, and three others were injured in an ambush by Kashmiri fighters in Hir Pora, Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK).”

The truth behind the claims about Indian Army soldier, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the claims. We found that these claims were false and fabricated.

To verify the claims made by propagandists, we conducted relevant keyword searches and carried out a thorough investigation. However, we found no verified, official, or credible sources confirming any such incident in Hir Pora. Additionally, we performed a reverse image search using Google Lens, which led us to media reports featuring the same image. According to these reports (1, 2), Army soldier Sunil Gujar tragically lost his life in an accident during construction work in Arunachal Pradesh.
