Fact Check: Stone pelters paraded publicly in Chhatarpur, propagandists circulate communal claims 

Recently, a video has been circulating online depicting police officers parading a group of individuals through the streets, with claims suggesting that the Chhatarpur police initially demolished homes and vehicles before arresting around 19 Muslims and publicly parading them. However, the reality is that these individuals were involved in stone-pelting during a protest at the police station. They were not random targets or innocent bystanders but participants in violent actions against law enforcement.

The video disseminated with communal claims from Chhatarpur

Several users, influencers and extremist propagandists have shared the video and made false communal claims. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propagandist account Meerut Faisal @meerfaisal001 wrote. Chhatarpur police arrested Muslims, paraded them around the city, and made them chant. “Apraadh karna paap hai, police hamari baap hai.” The Chhatarpur administration first demolished houses and vehicles and has now arrested around 19 people, paraded them around the city, and made them chant, “Committing crime is a sin; police is our father.”

Another propaganda account @doamuslims has also shared the video and wrote. Chhatarpur police arrested Muslims, paraded them around the city, and forced them to chant. “Committing crime is a sin; police is our father.” They first demolished their houses and arrested around 20 Muslims, paraded them around the city.

The truth about the video from Chhatarpur, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video of police action against stone pelters came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the incident and found that the video was unrelated to the religious persecution of a particular community. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search on Google which led us to media reports regarding the incident. According to the media report. In Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh, over 40 people were detained following a stone-pelting incident at the city Kotwali police station. Originally a protest against objectionable comments, the demonstration turned violent when the crowd started throwing stones at police officers. The altercation resulted in injuries to three officers, including the TI, who is in critical condition and receiving treatment in the ICU. Despite efforts to calm the situation, the crowd, with weapons and stones, grew increasingly aggressive, leading to further violence and injuries.

More than 40 people were detained in a major response to the stone-pelting incident at the city Kotwali police station in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. The police registered FIRs against 46 people and 150 unidentified people involved in the violent clash. The police have also released a statement regarding the incident.

Therefore, it is evident from media reports and police statements that these people were involved in violent acts against law enforcement, not innocent.
