Fact Check: Video of mob violently attacking rape accused in Bangladesh circulated with misleading claims

A distressing video showing a mob brutally attacking a defenseless individual with sticks is being shared with the claim that extremists killed a 12-year-old girl in Bangladesh. However, the truth is that this footage is from an incident occurred in Khilkhet, Dhaka, where a mob violently assaulted a young man accused of rape. The video is not related to violence against women.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @zamalhossain wrote, “Can Dr. Yunus avoid responsibility for the murder of this 12-year-old girl? This is the work of his mob forces.”
