Fact Check: Years-old video of Bangladeshis protest the revocation of ‘Article 370’ shared as recent

A video depicting a large crowd protesting against the revocation of ‘Article 370’ has recently been circulated with claims that it is a current event from Bangladesh. However, D-Intent Data has found that this footage is actually from August 2019 and shows protests in Bangladesh in response to India’s removal of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The video has no connection to the present political crisis in Bangladesh. And has been misrepresented to suggest a recent event.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) propagandist account @SaffronSunanda wrote. “Now Bangladeshis are protesting against the abrogation of Article 370. Their economy is doomed. The country is burning and soon they will beg like Maldives and Pakistan but their priorities are different. Boycott Banglad”.

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also shared the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here, @KreatelyMedia, @jpsin1

As soon as the posts containing the video of a large crowd protesting against the revocation of ‘Article 370’ and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that it was an old video from August 2019.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens.
