Old Video Of Ship Burning In Sultanate of Oman’s Territorial Waters off The Hasik Niyabat Coast Resurfaced With False Claims: Fact-Check 

A misleading claim that the Houthis attacked and destroyed an Israel-bound ship accompanied a video of a burning ship.

Several accounts on twitter, including @PalestineUrdu_ tweeted “Yemen’s Houthis attacked and destroyed a British plane bound for Israel. The ship refused to heed the Yemeni warning” on Jan 1, 2024. The tweet has received an about 94.6k views on X. The archive can be read from above.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The truth is that a boat caught fire in the territorial waters of the Sultanate of Oman near the coast of Hasik Niyabat in the Dhofar Governorate. It was travelling to the Republic of Somalia while loaded with a variety of goods. There are 11 Indians on its crew. It is unrelated to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.‎‍

We visited Times of Oman, which published an article on this incident on December 23, 2023 with the headline “Ship with 11 Indian passengers onboard catches fire”. This shows that the incident is not at all from the recent Israel-Palestine conflict.

But, after proper research, analysis and fact-checking, we have discovered that a boat caught fire in the Sultanate of Oman’s territorial waters near the Hasik Niyabat coast in Dhofar Governorate. It had a load of group of goods and was travelling to the Republic of Somalia. Eleven Indians made up its crew. The Israel-Palestine conflict is unrelated to it.
