Fact Check: Video of a Thai woman catching elephant dung circulated with misleading claims 

A video of a woman catching elephant dung as the animal defecates has been falsely linked to U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, with claims that it features an Indian individual. In reality, the video was originally posted on TikTok by Chalida, a Thai elephant keeper from Buriram, Thailand. Additionally, TikTok has flagged the post with a disclaimer indicating that the content is AI-generated and may not be accurate.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @CrimeReportsIND wrote, “JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, enriching America with her Indian values”.

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was unrelated to Indian individuals.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search of some keyframes from the video using Google Lens. This led us to a TikTok post containing the same video uploaded by Chalida, a female elephant keeper from Thailand. 

The video was originally posted on TikTok by a Thai elephant keeper named Chalida, who works in Buriram, Thailand. Furthermore, TikTok labeled the post with a disclaimer stating that the information was AI-generated and may not be accurate.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was unrelated to India, Indians or Indian-origin individuals.

Intent

Propagandists are circulating TikTok videos from different locations with misleading claims to set their narrative against India.
